Hi, doves!
Today I'm going to tell you a little story about the perfect dress and regret. You know how they say you can't miss what you never had? That is rubbish! Last year I found an amazing green, bicycle print vintage dress on etsy. And It was reasonably priced! For whatever reason, I talked myself out of it, and I have regretted that decision ever since! I even find myself looking for it now and then, hoping it (or something like it) will come back around someday.
So, I snagged this dress during one of ModCloth's holiday sales, but I knew I wouldn't wear it as is. See, the top was a wrap top, and I have this thing about wrap dresses. I have always thought they make me look oddly thin. They're just not flattering on me. So, I either wear pullover sweaters over them or avoid them altogether. But! I was not passing up the bicycle print again! And so, this is what I came up with.
I wore this outfit on Sunday. It was nice and sunny and not too cold... And now we're gearing up for a big snowstorm! Oh, fickle Jersey winter.

Very cute! I like it better worn as a skirt--the shape of that bodice isn't flattering on me, being too short and too wide, and it just causes me to resent it haha. I have quite a few dresses with that same shape that I just won't wear >.<
ReplyDeleteWhenever I'm shopping and I come across a piece that I love (quite fervently) but talk myself out of, I almost always go back for it. The regret will dominate my thoughts until I own the piece. It's ridiculous, but I've learned to just trust myself on it and make the purchase to avoid multiple shopping trips!
Also, I love the sock adjusting picture--too cute! We have some awful, swirly, cold mess coming our way in Michigan, too. Just when I was starting to enjoy above 0 weather. Ahh, well. Good luck!

wow, I really really love this outfit! The colours are perfect together.
ReplyDeleteI really can't stand to wear wrap top dresses. I just don't like the way the fabric goes across my boobs, haha. I just feel so uncomfortable in them but at the same time I have seen ones with such great prints that I ignore because of the top half.
I'm getting more comfortable in buying things that I like one aspect of and then reminding myself that I can change/cover the parts I don't like. Sometimes I just don't think that far ahead when I'm shopping!
I'm really hoping to get into my sowing this year so with any luck I might have the option to alter them.
I love all the colours together!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about missing out! There is a dress I've missed out on from modcloth that I feel the same way about.
I realize you already have a bicycle print dress now, but do you sew at all (or know someone who would be willing to make you a dress)? There are some really cute bicycle printed fabrics out there (fabric.com definitely has some) and lots of great vintage inspired and vintage repro patterns available too. :D
