Caped (Cold) Crusader...

Can we just talk about this cape for a second?! Last year I went on an etsy search for the perfect cape. I don't think it took me too long to decide on this one from Sally Jane Vintage because, well, it really is perfect. The designs are gorgeous, and it's wonderfully warm. I have to say, I always seem to have the best luck in Jennifer's shop. It's been a favourite for years now (as has her blog!).

This past weekend was windy and frigid. To the point where I had to warm up in the house four times and drink an Irish coffee before I finished taking these photos. But on Sunday we finally got some sun! So, I do quite like how they turned out.

Hope you're having a lovely (and not freezing cold!) week, doves!

Plum & Grey.

This has been a relaxed, uneventful weekend for me. Not much to report, really! So, this is what I wore on Friday to sit around and then go to the doctor's. I just wanted to be comfortable but not feel like a total bum... Even though I definitely was. I'm feeling a wee bit better today. Hopefully that continues!

(UO cardigan, Threadless tee, ModClothskirt & tights, AdrienneVittadini heels)

The full tee design was difficult to capture on the dark plum background, but here it is on Threadless. Also, these are the same brown shoes I wear nearly every single day but in black! I bought them for my Sally costume a couple years ago, but I somehow always forget about them. Super comfy with a nice kitten heel.

I'm only working Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and I couldn't be more excited for a bit of a holiday break.

Hope you've had a great weekend!

Seafoam.

Hi, doves! This week has been super busy. I kind of felt like I was starting to catch up and then got lost again. Wednesday was my birthday, and I had a really nice day. Yesterday I had a fever and realized I probably had another sinus infection. Today I stayed home and went to the doctor. Sinus infection, woo! I get at least three a year. Humbug.

(Dear Creatures dress, ModCloth sweater, Sock Dreams tights, same old shoes)

So, I wore this to work yesterday. Underneath is a Dear Creatures dress that I never really know how to wear. It has a silly elastic waist that makes things a bit odd. Even pairing it with this sweater I had to keep yanking everything down. I tried belts and nothing quite looked right. So, I wound up just constantly adjusting. Ah well.

So, I hope everyone has had a good week! I have the next three days off and then a little five day break next week. So, I'll be catching up for real now! Have a great weekend!

Primarily primary...

After staring at my closet for twenty minutes or so yesterday, I realized that all of my staples were in the hamper and I desperately needed to do some laundry. Whoops. My brain was hooked on neutrals, and I kept coming back to this navy skirt. But I had only brights left to pair it with! So, I put this outfit together to grab brunch and run errands... And then finally do laundry. It was sixty-five degrees! No coat required.

Yesterday was mostly a relaxing day of recovery, and today I'm back at work. I'm looking forward to the holidays and having some time off. Just one more week to go!

A pre-birthday surprise...

Ack, I didn't mean to be gone for so long! My boyfriend and my brother's girlfriend surprised my brother and me with a weekend in Philly with a bunch of friends. I will admit to not being the best person to surprise... Okay, okay, I'm really, really horrible with surprises.

So, Friday night when I realized that a quite a few of our friends were coming out for Saturday day/night, I had a wee bit of a meltdown. (A lot of it has to do with the fact that this is going to be a big birthday for me, and I've been wavering between feeling totally indifferent about it to absolute dead panic.) But! After I got it out of my system, I was totally fine and had a fantastic weekend! We went to a Cuban restaurant for dinner Friday night which was amazingly good. On Saturday, we got up early and grabbed brunch where one of my best friends and her husband were waiting for us. That was a surprise! I was thrilled to have them there. After brunch (which was delicious), we went to the Yards Brewery for a private tour where more friends showed up. After the tour, we all hung out drinking and talking in the bar for a few hours. I'm not a big beer person, but it was a lot of fun and low key! I found a couple of beers I liked, and there was a Brazilian barbeque food truck out front... So I was happy. Then we went back to where we were staying to relax for a bit before heading out to dinner (some of the best pizza I've had in a long time, actually! And olives. So many delicious olives).

I was terrified that it was just going to be too much. As an introvert, I get overwhelmed by these things so easily. The thing that I have the most difficulty with is holding off judgment. Delaying the panic and worry until I'm in the situation and can tell myself, see! This is fun!... Well, it's something I need to work on in a major way.  And, of course, once I was there and in it, it really turned out to be just the right amount of planned activities and downtime. We stayed in a couple of apartments (much cheaper than hotel rooms would have been and cozier!), and they made the perfect places to hang out during the in between times. We drank wine, played board games, watched some movies.

So, that was my surprise pre-birthday weekend! They did a brilliant job with the planning (I really had no idea they were up to anything), and it was a fantastic time!

I didn't get any outfit photos until today. So, this is what I wore to go to brunch (where a couple more friends met us!) and then head home.

(Anthropologie cardigan, ModCloth top and heels, thrifted J. Crew skirt, Target tights)

I love this babydoll top, but it's long... And I'm short! Since it's just not long enough to wear alone as a dress, I like to throw this blue skirt underneath. I've had the skirt forever, and it keeps coming in handy! The top also has an elastic back which makes it fit kind of oddly. It was almost seventy degrees today (... yep...), so I didn't need to bundle up at all. This is another one of my peacock colour schemes, and instead of just going with blue or grey or cream tights, I decided to try out this dark teal pair. Meh. I'm not in love with it. It's definitely something I'll keep playing with!

Now, it's time to relax. I can't wait to sleep in tomorrow (and catch up on my blog reading)! Hope you've had a good weekend!

Grey & Moss.

I was fully prepared to complain about not having any time to take photos in the daylight (as I've been doing daily for the past week), but then I read this timely, honest (and lovely) post by Kathryn of Kitsune-Kun and caught my tongue. I read it at just the exact moment I needed a bit of perspective, and it made me realize that it's absolutely okay to not photograph every outfit. As much as I would love to devote more time to this, I can only devote the time I have. And that's all right!

(UO cardigan, ModCloth tee, skirt, and heels (all old), Sock Dreams socks)

The potluck Saturday was a lot of fun, but it turned into a pretty late night! So, this is what I wore for a lazy, windy Sunday. This cardigan is bulky and comfy and probably borders on grandma status, but I think the cutout on the back makes it a bit more interesting. Also, this skirt has this awful, ginormous elastic waist that drives me batty. Fortunately, it easily tucks under. I added the black belt to hold it up for a higher waistline... Maybe not the best move on such a windy day! Ah well.

It snowed here today for the first time this season! I missed it, but it's still exciting...The lack of daylight might be frustrating, but I'm excited for the cold. Now I'm off to have a glass of wine and warm up!

Cinnamon Girl Part 2

Since Daylight Saving Time ended last Sunday, I've run into a bit of a dilemma. When I leave work in the evening, it's already dark outside! So, Fridays (I usually get out early) through Mondays (I have off) will have to be my photo days until we get some evening light back.

This is what I'm wearing today and what I'll be wearing tonight. I didn't feel like completely changing for the potluck I'm attending this evening, and I knew I wanted to wear this dress... So, I did a little from day to night remix! It's chilly, and I wanted to be comfy. This is what I'm wearing now.

(Vintage cardigan, Target dress & tights, Sock Dreams socks, ModCloth boots)

And this is what I'll be wearing this evening! Change out the socks, ditch the cardigan, and throw on some heels, and there we go!

(Sock Dreams socks & ModCloth heels)

I got this dress on clearance at Target. I never try anything on, so I didn't realize how short the front is until way later. Whoops! Ah well, it was probably about ten bucks.

Also, as I always do, I am having serious cutter's remorse. The only thing I can do is remind myself that yes, it looked nice. But! It was four inch dead end city. Take a deep breath. And continue the awkward growing out phase. Awkward because on any given day my hair could be straight, curly, wavy, half of one and half of another, or all three! One side could be flat whilst the other is poofy. Oy. So, here we go boldly into the awkwardness!

Actually, I should go start my baked mac and cheese for the potluck!

Have a cuppa tea...

Well, I stayed home with a bit of a cold today. Unless I'm bedridden, I think sick days are the great opportunity to play around with outfits. I purchased this skirt from Bonne Chance Collections a while ago during one of their Happy Hour sales, but I just hadn't gotten around to wearing it. So, I figured I'd give it a go today!

I started out thinking tea cups... Alice in Wonderland!... But I wound up going more retro this time around, I think. I did come up with a few ideas for a more Alice inspired outfit, though. Now that I think about it, today was the perfect day to wear this! Nothing like a cup of tea with honey and lemon for a sore throat!

(TJ Maxx blouse, Target cardigan (below), Bonne Chance skirt (sold out), Forever 21 tights, ModCloth heels)

This is my new hair! It gets more unruly the shorter it is, but I like it. I usually don't trim my hair as much as I should, so I wind up having to chop quite a bit off at once. I'm really, really going to try to get it trimmed regularly this time!

I bought another dress from Bonne Chance, but I'm saving that to wear on my birthday! Okay, now I'm going to have a hot toddy and curl up on the couch.

Back in plaid...

Well, I'm a few days late but happy November! It's my brother's and my birthday month (twins!) along with my mum and a couple of my best friends. Throw in a potluck next weekend and Thanksgiving... It's going to be busy!

Our impromptu trip to Boston was a whirlwind! A very long, but fun twenty-eight hours or so. It's always good to get back home after a crazy trip like that. Though I do really want to get back up there in December for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones' Hometown Throwdown!

(UO cardigan and skirt, ModCloth shirt, Target tights, vintage boots)

I meant to post last night, but I decided to just be lazy and take another evening off. These photos are actually from last weekend. My hair is so much shorter now! I chopped another few inches off today. A clean slate is always refreshing! Plus my hair grows like a weed, so it'll be super long again in no time. Tomorrow I'll catch up, and I'll be back in real time!
